HLL | Living Longer, Stronger

Meet Dr. Darrel Collins

Board-Certified Cardiologist. Longevity Physician. Founder of HLL.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Darrel Collins has cared for patients across the spectrum of cardiovascular health and disease. Today, that experience shapes a more proactive approach focused on understanding risk earlier, protecting healthspan, and helping people make informed decisions about the years ahead.

HIS STORY

A Calling That Evolved Into a Different Way of Seeing Medicine

I can remember being eight or nine years old, when everyone would talk about what they wanted to be when they grew up. My answer was always the same: I was going to be a doctor.

At that age, I didn’t really understand what being a physician meant. There were no doctors in my family. I grew up around farmers, mechanics and truck drivers. What I did understand was that doctors helped people and somehow, even then, I knew that was what I wanted to do.

As I got older, that feeling became something I can only describe as a calling. I wanted to help others, I knew I had the ability to do the work, and I was willing to dedicate myself to it.

Medicine turned out to be the right decision. I still love it today.

A young boy stands on a farm surrounded by greenery and a fence.

That childhood ambition became a career spanning more than two decades in cardiovascular medicine.

Dr. Collins trained in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease and went on to practice invasive cardiology, caring for patients across the spectrum of cardiovascular health and disease from prevention and risk management to advanced disease and acute cardiovascular events.

Over the course of his career, he has performed thousands of invasive cardiac procedures and spent years making consequential decisions in situations where the stakes could not have been higher.

That experience gave him a deep understanding not only of how cardiovascular disease is treated but of what happens when it is discovered too late.

Over the years, I began to see the same pattern again and again.

A patient would arrive with a heart attack, stroke, or advanced cardiovascular disease. To thepatient and their family, the event felt sudden but the disease behind it often wasn’t.

The plaque had been developing for years. Metabolic changes may have been present long before symptoms appeared. There were often signals along the way, but the pieces had not always been measured, connected, or acted upon.

I became increasingly interested in what happened before the crisis.

What could we learn five, ten, or even twenty years earlier? What risks could we identify sooner? And how much more opportunity might someone have if we understood those risks while there was still time to act thoughtfully?

These questions changed the way I thought about medicine and ultimately became part of the reason I founded HealthSpan Longevity Living.

HLL PHILOSOPHY

What Guides My Work

I have spent more than 20 years treating cardiovascular disease and seeing what happens when we arrive too late. At this point in my career, my mission is clear: to help high-achievers protect their health before disease has the opportunity to take away the years they have worked so hard to enjoy.

That is why I founded HealthSpan Longevity Living.

Our mission is to extend healthspan, not just lifespan, so you can live longer, stronger, and with greater independence.

I want my patients not simply to have more years, but to have the health, strength, clarity, and capability to fully live them. I also believe we can do better by looking earlier and deeper. By identifying meaningful risk before symptoms demand our attention. By connecting information that is too often viewed in isolation. And by using science and clinical judgment to determine what actually matters for the individual in front of me.

My role is not to order every available test or chase every new longevity trend. It is to see the whole picture. To understand the person, interpret the evidence, separate meaningful signals from noise, and turn that understanding into clear decisions about what to do next.

Because ultimately, longevity is about protecting the years ahead and the ability to live them well.

Four Principles Behind Our Work

Precision Over Guesswork

Every human biology is different. We don’t guess at your cardiovascular, metabolic, stroke, dementia or cancer risk. We measure it with advanced diagnostics not offered in standard medical practices.

Prevention Over Reaction

Most of the diseases that shorten life develop silently for years. We find disease years before symptoms, when intervention is most effective.

Science Without Speculation

In a longevity industry crowded with trends and hype, we draw a hard line. Every recommendation is evidence-based, physician-led, and grounded in measurable outcomes.

Time Is the Ultimate Asset

Our patients value time above all else. We coordinate everything, protect your time, and ensure the plan actually gets implemented.

BEYOND THE WHITE COAT

The Things That Bring Me Joy

Outside of medicine, I find joy in things that keep me curious and connected to the world around me. I love dogs, ornithology, classical piano, and Spanish literature. I also love hiking and simply being in nature.

These interests are very different from one another, but they’re all part of what makes life meaningful to me. And in many ways, they remind me why healthspan matters.

I don’t want longevity simply for the sake of having more years. I want the health and freedom to continue doing the things I love, exploring what interests me, spending time with the people who matter to me, and fully participating in life. I want that for the people I care for, too.

That’s what excites me about this next chapter of medicine and about what we’re building at HealthSpan Longevity Living. We have an opportunity to look further ahead, understand health more deeply, and help people protect not only how long they live, but how well they are able to live.

That’s the work I want to spend this chapter of my career doing.
